Course Overview

The Caribbean Institute for Health Research (CAIHR) has been offering the Master of Science in Epidemiology since 2006.

Epidemiology is the study of the distribution and determinants of health-related states or events and the application of this information to the control of local and global health problems. Epidemiological methods have evolved as a formal process and underpins health research. It is used in study design, surveillance, outbreak management, planning effective interventions and to manage public health problems and develop policies.

The course is designed for  health care providers, academics, and other persons working in health care delivery, administration, industry or non-governmental organizations. Students from other graduate programmes can also register for modules offered by the MSc Epidemiology to earn credits towards their degree.

Experienced faculty deliver the course, ensuring that students receive high-quality education in epidemiology, statistical and research methods. This one-year full-time face-to-face program is offered in alternate years and is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in the principles of epidemiology.

By the end of the program, graduates will have the competences they need to become active participants in the process of knowledge creation and utilization in health. With a comprehensive understanding of epidemiology and research methods, students will be well-equipped to contribute to the field of public health and make a positive impact on society. The program’s emphasis on face-to-face learning ensures that students receive personalized attention from experienced faculty and benefit from an interactive learning environment.
